Ambassador Dan Shapiro
Oct. 30, 2017
Drawing on his eight years serving in the Obama Administration and his current vantage point from Israel on the Trump Administration, Ambassador Shapiro will review highs and lows, bust some myths, and give a behind-the-scenes account of Israeli-Palestinian talks, the fight over the Iran deal, and the many successes in U.S.-Israel relations. He will analyze prospects for future bilateral cooperation, regional peace and security initiatives, and some continued dissonance between these two close allies in the next four years.
As Israel marks 50 years since the Six Day War, Ambassador Shapiro will analyze how the implications of that victory continue to resonate in present-day Israel and will play a key role in shaping Israel’s future and the future of the U.S.-Israel relationship.
Six Days In June The War That Redefined the Middle East
Nov. 27, 2017
The shooting lasted only six days in June 1967, but the Six Day War has never really ended. Every crisis that has ripped through this region in the ensuing decades stems from those six fateful days. On its 50th anniversary, the region remains trapped in conflict and is every bit as explosive as it was in 1967. Six Days chronicles the events of fifty years ago with a fresh historical perspective. Rarely in modern times has so short and localized a conflict had such profound global consequences.
Following the viewing of this groundbreaking documentary, hear two community members share their and their families’ experiences during the Six Day War.
The Herbert Tarr North Shore Institute for Adult Jewish Education presents a diversified selection of classes and lectures on Monday evenings in November. A detailed brochure is available by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
